- Small Schools Whitepaper: A Meta Study on the Benefits of Small Schools – Dr. Stuart Grauer (2023)
- This research paper conducts a comprehensive review of literature examining the advantages of small schools over larger counterparts across six crucial domains: safety, teaching conditions, academic performance, culture of connection and inclusiveness, learning choices and curriculum, and costs of schooling. Findings indicate that small schools exhibit notable strengths in all areas, with the exception of cost, where the evidence is inconclusive and warrants further investigation. The author suggests that limiting consideration to schools with 350 students or fewer could position U.S. schools at the forefront of international rankings. The paper concludes by advocating for new school evaluation methods and performance standards that better predict U.S. prosperity.
